Head of Year Welcome
Welcome to Ark Victoria Academy Early Years Foundation Stage. Starting school marks a new and exciting stage of life for both child and parents. In our Foundation Stage we strive to create a safe, secure and stimulating environment which meets the individual needs of all our children.
Our Nursery and Reception setting work collaboratively so that children become familiar with all staff, hence making smoother transitions from Nursery through to Reception. Our classrooms are a focused environment for children to flourish and grow to reach their full potential. All aspects of a child’s development will be encouraged through active involvement in a balanced curriculum of play based learning and small group teaching time. Our teaching covers Read Write Inc Phonics, Maths, Writing and Topic. During our continuous provision (exploration time) the children are encouraged to independently apply taught skills in different areas. We teach the children to be ambitious through being confident and problem solving, resilient through taking risks and persevering and kind through building relationships with adults and their peers.
Adults play a crucial role in encouraging children to express themselves and demonstrate their understanding in various ways. Adults promote independence, resilience and exploration by providing opportunities to take supported risks. Teachers observe children carefully Continue to build upon what the child has already learned at home, broadening their range of earning experiences and stimulating their curiosity and imagination. Our Ark Values enable each child to develop as a happy, confident and independent learner with a well-developed sense of self-worth, responsibility and community.
The Foundation Stage Curriculum
Throughout your child’s time in Nursery and Reception they will be following the curriculum for the Early Years Foundation Stage, working towards the Early Learning Goals by the end of Reception. This curriculum outlines standards for learning and development for all children aged 0-5 and is organised into seven areas of learning. Please see the Nursery and Reception Curriculum overview.
