Head of Year Welcome
Hello everyone, welcome to Reception!
I am Mrs Abbas – Assistant Headteacher of EYFS. We have had a fantastic start to the term this year! The children have been learning about Autumn and Harvest. We have had many exciting experiences, from parent workshops to an Autumn walk!
This term we have been building children’s confidence to perform for their Harvest assembly. The children showed great confidence and motivation and enjoyed performing to Year 1 and their parents.
Much of our focus at the start of this academic year will be on Phonics, early Maths skills and building children’s spoken language. In Phonics children will learn the single letter sounds and begin to decode CVC words. Children will work in groups to ensure they are receiving the best support. In Maths children will begin to learn about patterns, they will build the skill of spotting patterns for themselves. This will build the foundations for recall of the counting sequence and understanding number operations.
We have wonderful experiences planned throughout the year. Children will have the opportunity to observe chick eggs hatch and grow, plant flowers around the school, learn about different occupations and work closely with their parents during workshops. The Reception team are looking forward to working with you and your children this year and we are very excited for all the amazing things ahead!
