Head of Year Welcome
Hello,
I am Mrs Lavin, Head of Year 1 and class teacher in 1 Zephaniah. Our other class teachers in Year 1 are Miss Hussein in 1 Cadbury and Miss Akhtar in 1 Yousafzai. We are so excited to be part of your child’s learning journey and have some wonderful lessons and experiences planned for this year!
Much of our focus at the start of this academic year will be ensuring the smooth transition from Reception to Key Stage 1. Phonics continues to be a major focus; children will learn how to decode, to read fluently and at speed so they can focus on developing their skills in comprehension, vocabulary and spelling. We appreciate any support you can provide at home; listening to your child read every night and talking about the text will help build a positive reading culture among our pupils and fuel their imaginations.
We have so many wonderful experiences planned throughout the year. Children will have the opportunity to visit places of worship, perform in concerts, enjoy seasonal walks and even get to meet some animals they would find in the rainforest!
Personal development is a big focus for us as an academy this year. At Ark Victoria we want to help our pupils become curious citizens with a strong moral purpose. As well as embedded themes throughout our curriculum, children will study carefully sequenced lessons and have weekly assemblies to develop a diverse knowledge of moral, social, and cultural issues as well as how they can positively contribute to the wider community. We are especially looking forward to learning about character and virtues this academic year. The Year 1 team feel privileged to be teaching your children this year and look forward to seeing them grow both academically and socially.
Please follow us on Twitter to see the children and their incredible work.
