Head of Year Welcome
Hello there, I’m Mrs Stokes! I’m the Head of Year for year 2 and I teach 2 Tolkien. Year 2 is a fantastic year group to be in because of our engaging topics, exciting opportunities and challenging texts. This year, your child will be supported by Miss Dhadley (2 Simmonds), Miss Tulloch (2 Watt), Mrs Nisa and Mrs Rasool. Highlights of the Year 2 curriculum include a hook day in Autumn term where children get to dress up and become immersed in our text “The Polar Express”, recalling our scientific knowledge of materials to understand the changes that happened as a result of the Great Fire of London in Spring and finally, an exciting seaside topic in which we will learn all about the British coast! Explore our curriculum map to see all the fabulous things we will be learning. The most important support parents can provide in Year 2 is reading every day with your child, sharing books you loved as a child and reading a range of exciting texts at home.
Personal development is a big focus for us as an academy this year. At Ark Victoria we want to help our pupils become curious citizens with a strong moral purpose. As well as embedded themes throughout our curriculum offer, children will study carefully sequenced lessons and have weekly assemblies to develop a diverse knowledge of moral, social, and cultural issues as well as how they can positively contribute to the wider community. We are especially looking forward to learning about character and virtues.
