Head of Year Welcome

Dear Year Three families,

I am Mr. McCahill, Assistant Headteacher and Head of Year 3, and I'd like to welcome you and your children to Year Three. I share 3 Simmonds with Mrs Horobin and our other class teachers in Year 3 are Mrs Chaubey in 3 Watt, Miss Begum in 3 Cadbury and Mr Thompson in 3 Tolkien. We are so excited to be part of your child’s learning journey and have some wonderful lessons and experiences planned for this year!

Year 3 is such an exciting year and the start of key stage 2. We encourage the children to become more independent with their learning and build key skills to support their learning going forward. We have a packed year of fun learning with many wonderful experiences! During wider curriculum lessons, the children will learn about Ancient Egypt and Ancient Greece, Mansa Musa and Earthquakes. We will be reading amazing texts such as The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe, The Iron Man and Into the Jungle. In Writing, children will take on the roles and writing styles of story writers, biographers, and newspaper journalists!

Personal development is a big focus for us as an academy this year. At Ark Victoria we want to help our pupils become curious citizens with a strong moral purpose. As well as embedded themes throughout our curriculum, children will study carefully sequenced lessons and have weekly assemblies to develop a diverse knowledge of moral, social, and cultural issues as well as how they can positively contribute to the wider community. We are especially looking forward to learning about character and virtues.

We appreciate any support you can provide at home and ask your support in ensuring your child is participating in home learning everyday. Sitting with your child to read, talking about the text and questioning your child about what they have read will help build a positive reading culture and equip them with these vital skills.
The Year 3 team feel privileged to be teaching your children this year and look forward to seeing them grow both academically and socially.
