Summer 1

Fine Art

Pupils will continue their coursework component 1 on the theme portraiture. Component one of their portfolio is worth 60% of the student final mark. This term, students will continue the designing process and develop their ideas through to a finished product. Students’ work in Year 10 and Year 11 in total show explicit coverage of the four assessment objectives; 

AO1 – Develop: research, images & artists/ designers, A02: Refine: media and techniques, A03: Record: record ideas & drawings, and A04: Present: final ideas & outcome/s.

This half-term, students will look at either the work of Patricia Ariel, Lucy McLauchlan or Iain Macarthur. They will then learn how to develop their ideas to create an effective final response.

How to develop their protypes to improve their products 

How to record their ideas and concepts in their sketchbooks 

How to manufacture a final product using a range of resistant materials

Spring 2

3 Dimensional design

Pupils will continue their coursework component 1 on designing and making a functioning product of their choice. Component one of their portfolio is worth 60% of the student final mark. This term students will continue the designing process and develop their ideas through to a finished product. Students’ work in Year 10 and Year 11 in total show explicit coverage of the four assessment objectives; 

AO1 – Develop: research, images & artists/ designers, A02: Refine: media and techniques, A03: Record: record ideas & drawings, and A04: Present: final ideas & outcome/s.

This half-term, students will be focusing on developing their researching and designing skills. They will also be learning how to use computer aided design software to create files which can cut material using the laser cutter. 

Skills pupils will be learning this term:

  • How to generate ideas around a chosen theme
  • How to analyse existing products
  • How to analyse the work of others
  • How to layout and present your work in a sketchbook
  • How to create a range of initial design ideas
  • How to develop design ideas
  • How to create models and mock-ups
  • How to use 2D design to cut material using the laser cutter
  • How to use the laser cutter

Spring 1

3 Dimensional design

This half-term, students will be focusing on developing their practical skills on both wood and textiles. They will learn how to cut, shape and join different materials to make functional products. They will also learn different decorative and finishing techniques to improve the aesthetics of a product.

Skills pupils will be learning this term:

  • How to attach textile components such as buttons, zips and Velcro
  • How to use a sewing machine
  • Embroidery techniques
  • How to use 2D design to cut material using the laser cutter
  • How to use the laser cutter

Autumn 2
