Diversity and inclusion

We aim to build a diverse and inclusive organisation where everyone – staff and students – can do their best work and achieve their full potential.

Our community

Our pupils know and understand the importance of showing respect to everyone, whatever differences we may have, and to everything, whether it is a school resource or a religious belief. We promote and celebrate diversity by celebrating cultures through Culture Day and events such as Black History Month, World Earth Day, and different religious festivals over the course of each year.

Pupils learn to respect differences and beliefs through our Personal Development curriculum. We work closely with the Jubilee Centre at the University of Birmingham on character education, so that pupils and staff can explore virtues and values as part of their personal development journey.

Our values are an important aspect of our school culture and ethos and help to regulate behaviour. Our student leaders are excellent ambassadors for the school and model these values on a daily basis.

Accessibility

Ark Victoria is committed to providing a fully accessible environment, which values and includes all pupils, staff, parents and visitors regardless of their education, physical, sensory, social, spiritual, emotional and cultural needs. We are committed to challenging negative attitudes about disability and accessibility, and to developing a culture of awareness, tolerance and inclusion.

You can read about how our school curriculum caters to SEND learners here.

Curriculum

Our curriculum is consciously inclusive and seeks to support pupils of all backgrounds, experiences, and protected characteristics to access and enjoy our aspirational curricula. An authentic and truthful study of each subject celebrates and acknowledges that diverse bodies of people have generated and evolved the powerful knowledge in our subjects, and have made our disciplines what they are. We recognise the importance of developing and valuing our learners’ voice; our focus on oracy helps develop confidence, the ability to express views and build on the contributions of others.

Our staff and recruitment

We want to reflect and represent diverse perspectives across our organisation because we know that doing so will make us stronger, more connected and enhance our pupils' education.

Ark is an equal opportunity employer. Applications from individuals are encouraged regardless of age, disability, sex, gender reassignment, sexual orientation, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief and marriage and civil partnerships.
