Why do we learn physical education?
Physical Education Intent
A high-quality physical education curriculum inspires all pupils to succeed and excel in competitive sport and other physically demanding activities. At Ark Victoria Academy we provide opportunities for pupils to become physically confident in a way which supports their health and fitness. Opportunities to compete in sport and other activities build character and help to embed values such as fairness and respect.
Aims of Our Physical Education Curriculum:
The Ark Victoria Academy Physical Education curriculum aims to ensure that all pupils:

develop competence to excel in a broad range of physical activities

are physically active for sustained periods of time

engage in competitive sports and activities

lead healthy, active lives
Our cohesive and thoughtfully sequenced curriculum supports pupils to become secure in three conceptually distinctive but functionally connected pillars of progression. These are:

motor competence – knowledge of the range of movements that become increasingly sport- and physical activity-specific

rules, strategies and tactics – knowledge of the conventions of participation in different sports and physical activities

healthy participation – knowledge of safe and effective participation
so that pupils are able to achieve these aims and flourish in their learning of Physical Education.
