Reception

Welcome to Reception!  My name is Mrs Abbas and I am the Assistant Headteacher of Nursery and Reception (EYFS). I will be teaching Reception Simmonds alongside Mrs Khatun and we will be supported by Mrs Minhas. In Reception, we also have Miss Kosar who will be teaching Reception Cadbury; she will be supported by Mrs Punn.

We have many exciting activities and events planned such as Autumn walks, Harvest assembly, baking, planting and many more! All of the staff in Reception are working really hard to make the classrooms special and exciting.

In our first term, we will be supporting children to build their confidence, become familiar with the classroom routines, learn about the different areas in the classroom, make friends and build positive relationships with all the staff. We will learn single letter sounds and begin to blend simple CVC words. In Maths, we will learn to count using 1:1 correspondence, play with pattern and learn about shapes. We have many exciting stories to read during the Autumn term. We will create story maps and use actions to retell the stories as a class. In topic, children learn about themselves, their family and friends. They learn how they are similar and how they are different. During this term, the children settle into their new environment, learn rules and share thoughts and ideas.  There is a focus on developing high expectations of behaviour and instilling self-regulation within the school environment.

We have such an exciting and fun-filled year planned from having baby chicks in class to venturing out and going on trips to some exciting places! We will also have some parent workshops for you to get involved in with your children. The Reception team can’t wait to share these experiences with both you and the children.
