Head of Year Welcome
Hello, my name is Mrs Youle and I am the Head of Year 1 this year. Alongside Mr Ibrahim, I will also teach 1 Yousafzai. We are joined by Miss Begum who teaches 1 Tolkien and Miss Stearn who is the class teacher of 1 Watt. Year 1 are lucky to be supported by Mrs Rasool, who will work across all three classes this year. We are all so excited to be part of your child’s learning journey. The start of the year focusses on ensuring children have a smooth transition from Reception to Year 1. Phonics is an important aspect of our day as the children develop their reading and writing skills. Children will begin to decode and read more fluently, as well as develop comprehension. We really appreciate your support at home with this. Reading with and to your child will help instil a love of reading, as well as develop your child’s flourishing imagination. Year 1 is such an exciting year and we have so many exciting experiences to look forward to. We will visit our local area and partake in many nature walks as we move through each season. Parents will be warmly welcomed to enjoy their child perform in plays and concerts and, later in the year, children will visit a real castle as part of History lessons. Personal development and character remain an important focus this year. We will support the children in becoming curious citizens through weekly lessons and assemblies, and children will have the opportunity to discuss how they can positively contribute to our community. The Year 1 team feel privileged to be teaching your child this year and look forward to seeing them grow both academically and socially.
