Year 6

We are so proud to be teaching in Year 6, in the final year of the primary phase and feel privileged to be able to complete this part of the journey with our children. Our team of dedicated, experienced practitioners will ensure that every child has the tools required to be successful in Year 6 and beyond. Of course, much of the focus this year will be upon the end of Key Stage 2 assessments and, while these are extremely important in assessing the children’s key literacy and numeracy skills, we will also enjoy sharing a broad curriculum of topics with the children. 

We are very excited about our World War 2 unit as it’s such a fascinating and important period of recent history. Similarly, learning about climate change in Geography will be vitally important for the children, giving them a foundation of knowledge in this increasingly prevalent area of study. In humanities, the focus will be upon providing the children with the skills to approach topics with the confidence of young historians/geographers. In science, the children will be developing their knowledge of light, evolution and electricity amongst other topics. The children will practise scientific methods through their investigations and learn to think and approach questions as young scientists. 

We look also look forward to some incredible enrichment opportunities this year, with exciting trips to the ‘Home of the Codebreakers’, Bletchley Park to support with the children’s learning around World War 2. Additionally, we look forward to experiencing a range of outdoor activities, including canoeing, at Conkers Activity Centre later in the year. There will also be musical performances, theatre, live poetry, an interactive science dome, a trip to a university and lots of other exciting activities to broaden the experiences of our students. 

This year, the Year 6 team will ensure the children reach their potential, both academically and socially, and are ready for the transition to secondary school. Working together, parents and teachers can ensure a very bright future for the wonderful group of children we have. We appreciate all the support that parents/carers provide at home and we look forward to helping our children learn, grow and succeed together!
